Been watching those home improvement show again? Ready to recover a chair you already own, or yearning to buy a reclaimed one from a salvage yard? Fab, as long as you make wise choices with your fabric and trimmings it should not cost very much at all, and if you do not try to get too advanced, it can be easy.

The best advice is to start with a chair that is mainly wooden, or does not require all over fabric. Choose one that has a seat that can readily be popped out. Remove it from the rest of the chair, undue the tacks or furniture staples and get rid of the unwanted fabric and old foam. Cut new foam to match the old one, then get a longer batting piece to secure the foam in place with a staple gun on the underside. Finally cut the fabric so it is long enough to wrap around the edge of the cushion, leave more than you think you will need. Always better to be safe than sorry. Staple the fabric in place on the underside, and you are finished.

Usually when people start to talk about curtains they cover things like measurements, and styles which can sound intimidating to some. However, in a child’s room, curtains can be the exact opposite of intimidating, they can be fanciful, inexpensive and easy to put up one’s self. To prove it, here is one do it yourself project that will not leave you fit to be tied.

You can make adorable curtains for a little girl, or boys room with ribbon. To make such playful curtains all you need for supplies are a café rod with the measurements to fit the space you are filling. Then decide upon four different ribbons, but each one should coordinate with the others. For example, get them all in different strengths of navy blue, and some with sailboats, some with moons, some with stars, and others with stripes.

The length of each should be based upon the height of the rods placement, and the sill involved. Alternate the ribbons, and tie on to the rod like you would a necktie. To ensure they are all identical lengths, cut after each is in place. When the window is opened, and a breeze is out these ribbons will come to life.

Oh how I love to look at before and after photos of rooms that have been redecorated by designers. You know the ones where an unsightly hodge podge of tables and chairs, patterns and textures are tackled and revamped. Or spaces that were never decorated at all, and instead are void of style and continuity, those are probably my favourite. The number of shows I have watched on this, along with articles I have read must rate in the hundreds at this point.

What has held my attention the most recently is the use of colour by professional designers in these challenges. Even in cases where the homeowners have larger than life personalities, it is not uncommon for them to waiver on the use of colour in their houses. They seem to stick with what is safe, even though what would be preferred is something unpredictable. This has pushed me to take a look at my own home and to evaluate whether or not I too could bring in some unanticipated

I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to guard against stains and to remove them from our laundry. Though I have had great success with the product Biotex, I am finding it increasingly difficult to locate. My fear is that I must find a replacement, and fast. As my search for the next best thing goes on I am encountering some interesting stuff, let me share with you.

I was completely oblivious to the amazing properties in good old baby powder to safeguard against stains. But, after reading about it, I tested it and have seen it in action, and it really works. You are meant to sprinkle the powder onto the underarm and collar sections of white shirts, then follow this by ironing. Apparently, the powder creates a barrier that keeps icky stuff from seeping into the material.

As I mentioned, I did a test run on this, but next I am going to see how powerful it really is against my main laundry nemesis, sunscreen. It is ruining the white clothes we wear with sunscreen on us. It is unsightly, and I would be spellbound by anything that prohibits the damage from occurring. It would save us from having to replace items, and eliminate the disappointment of having to chuck clothes we hoped to keep for a long while.

You can have the most expensive furniture on the planet, but if you have pets that shed they will lose their appeal. Even if you were savvy enough to get chairs, and a sofa in a material that conceals the pet hair, when you and your guests get up from those seats the hair will travel with you, and be very visible. Though you might not have considered this when you purchased the furniture, or when you adopted the critters, it is now an issue that must be dealt with properly.

No matter how you decide to get this unfortunate situation under control, whether it be vacuum, sponge, damp cloth, lint roller, or brush just concede that it will take effort. By testing all of these methods you will soon find out how much effort. Much of your choice will be dependant upon the amount of hair that is left behind on your duvet, pillows and rugs. However, you spent all of that time on collecting and organising your pretty furniture, and you want everyone to love your pets as much as you do so it is a necessary chore.

Anyone who has ever set up a nursery will have intended to create a beautiful space for baby. I personally an very supportive of the movement away from the gender specific colour coding of nurseries. And while I still think green is a nice way to remain neutral, it too is becoming a bit stale.

That is why I am recommending to anybody prepping a baby room consider retro colours and patterns. The retro waves, bubbles and squares are so undeniably happy, and often involve a wide range of colours, so that things are in no way banal. Nor is it too girly or boyish. Instead these are frequently lively, but still maintain a sense of calm. These are exactly what I believe a baby, and parents want in such a space. I mean who doesn’t smile when they see bubbles, and if ever their was meant to be a happy room, this is it.

The best part, is that these different retro patterns somehow seem to work well together, with little effort. Thus, shapes and colour are a part of babies world from the get go.

Most of my friends ask me for tips on how to make their homes more Feng Shui, and most of them seem to be confused in one way or another about what this even means. Why so many people are puzzled comes as no great surprise, as this is not something you can wing, or piece together haphazardly. In general, everyone seems to understand that comfort is involved in this equation. But this does not mean that by placing a great new Sealy Millionaire Ortho mattress, and some Calvin Klein, Egyptian Cotton, 1500 thread count sheets in your bedroom that you have transformed the space.

Granted, it will improve your quality of sleep, but the whole room must be in concert with the Feng Shui design, not just one or two elements. A new mattress and new linens can be a fabulous start, but it is just that a start. Now, let me interject right here that I am not telling you that you need to pull all of the belongings and furnishings you already have out of your home and replace them with all new items. That is missing the point too. It is about balance first and foremost, and in most homes things simply need to be shifted, rearranged, but yes, there are some integral additions that will come into play.

If you have a bedroom that does nothing for your libido, leaves you restless, and groggy then assessing the room is the first step. But, I can tell you without even visiting that in this room you do need a good mattress, and a comfortable (do not read into this as expensive because it need not be) set of sheets. Because even if you create the most relaxing, and balanced space around the bed, if it does not provide you with a delicious nights sleep then proper Feng Shui will not exist.

Moving on from this, a lot of people recognise one or two elements involved in Feng Shui. Either they know which colours work best where, or they recall something about a negative effect brought on by sharp angles and misplaced mirrors. With the magnitude of information available on this subject, the only thing I can attribute not becoming better acquainted before delving into incorporating the ideals of Feng Shui is sheer laziness. Yep, I said it, and believe it. Now, I recognise that to my friends I am a source to be tapped into when it comes to this subject, and I do my best to accommodate their inquiries. But, for those without such a mate, my advice to you is read, read, read up on the subject. Then once you know where you are headed, you can peruse Sealy Mattresses and deliciously high thread count sheets.

It was not all that long ago that I reported that Honeysuckle, was named the Pantone colour of the year. In case you are unfamiliar with it, it is a blue pink that looks yummy enough to taste. I quite like this colour, but have not come across it on one single wall since it was named the trendiest of the trendy for 2011. This has led me to feel a tad sorry for the ignored winner, and I have since made a point of it to put it down on my list to use come hell or high water. The only question left was what to pair it with, and with this came a flood of potential suitors. The match that I made was in keeping with the floral theme of the name of this pink. The combinations I recently used was a vibrant green leaf and a businessy grey-brown called corporate. I plan to post a photo of the dining room that I have been describing shortly. I was so pleased with the finished product that I think it might prompt others to embrace Honeysuckle too.

While it might be called a hanging lingerie dryer, it is oh so very much more. There a some articles of clothing that we prefer to hang dry that are too small to be placed on a regular drying rack, or line. In addition, some of us believe in hanging all of our clothes to dry for multiple reasons, so the lingerie dryer is a necessity.

The stainless steel hanging lingerie dryer has built in clips for all those delicates. It is also perfect for the winter seasons rugged gear. It is the place to dry mittens, gloves, and wool socks, and hats. Even better is the fact that the top has a hook just like a hanger, so you can hide this gizmo away by hanging it from your curtain rod in the bathroom.

Of course it goes without saying that the rust resistant steel that it is made of is a key factor in making this a super duper item. No need to replace it due to rusted sections that are potentially damaging to the very clothing articles you are so lovingly hanging, and trying to get to last as long as possible.

When a room is decorated in keeping with Feng Shui guidelines it naturally draws people into it because of its harmonious layout. It is one that, based upon balance, appears inviting, and puts those who enter it at ease due to its relaxed formation. Along with the balance comes the flow that might not be something everyone can identify as being a source of the space’s success, but it is a critical factor nonetheless.

One of the easiest of ways to set up such an area is to start with the simplicity of arranging a seating area around a round coffee table, or oversized ottoman. The purpose here is to abolish what are known as poison arrows. Those are created by the sharp angles of a square, or rectangular table, or ottoman. The round focal piece allows people to reach a seat easily because there is a smooth path around it. By placing a small rug beneath the round piece of furniture the focal point is well established, thus further directing attention to the gathering area.
